HARBOUR MASTER Southampton

The Port of Southampton is one of the UK’s busiest and economically important ports playing a major role within the local community. ABP is the harbour, pilotage and VTS authority for Southampton Water and much of the Solent, having a wide range of stakeholders. Safety of navigation, efficiency of vessel movement and protection of the environment are fundamental to these duties.

We are seeking a Harbour Master to ensure that Southampton’s Statutory and Competent Harbour Authority responsibilities are met in full. Specific responsibilities will be the management of Pilotage, Vessel Traffic Services, Berth Allocation, Moorings, Emergency Planning & Response, Pollution Control and the Harbour Patrol service. The successful candidate will also promote and maintain excellent relations with all harbour users and stakeholders and contribute to the senior management team at Southampton, taking a leading role on all marine matters pertaining to the Port of Southampton.

Applicants must hold a Class 1 (Deck Officer) Certificate of Competency and have a proven record of operational management in a marine environment, preferably including command or pilotage experience. A thorough knowledge of maritime legislation is essential as well as experience in the preparation and management of financial budgets, together with excellent communication and presentation skills.
